Pergolas and deck covers

Pergola kits, custom wood pergolas and covers that make a Florida deck usable all summer.

A deck in full Florida sun can be too hot to use from June through September. Shade fixes that. We build and install pergolas and covers over new and existing decks.

Options

  • Pergola kits: Aluminum or vinyl kits from the manufacturer you choose. On a recent job we assembled and installed a pergola kit for $900 in labor, and the homeowner paid the exact cost of the kit with no markup.
  • Custom wood pergolas: Built from pressure-treated or cedar framing, sized to the deck.
  • Louvered or solid covers: For full rain protection. These usually need engineering and a separate permit for wind loads.

Plan for it before the deck is built

If you might add a pergola later, tell us during the deck build. We'll add blocking in the framing where the posts will land so the pergola can be bolted down solidly without tearing up boards.

Common questions

Do I need a permit for a pergola in Tampa Bay?

Often yes, especially for attached structures, solid roofs and larger freestanding pergolas, because Florida requires wind-load design. We'll confirm with your city or county and pull it with the deck permit when we can.
